OPENING

If you have been using an Advent wreath, light all of the candles now.  If you desire, light a fifth/or single candle for this devotion.  If the words of the Hymns are familiar, you are invited to sing them.

Jesus Christ, You are the Light of the world that no darkness can overcome: for darkness is as light with You:  You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.  Forgive us!
Psalm 139:11; 90:8

Jesus Christ, You are the Light of the world that no darkness can overcome; for the shadow of death flees from You:  Guide our feet into the way of peace!
Luke 1:79

Jesus Christ, You are the Light of the world that no darkness can overcome; for You give light to those sitting in darkness:  Look the Light has dawned on us!
Matthew 4:16

Jesus Christ, You are the Light of the world that no darkness can overcome; for You make all things visible:  Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!
Ephesians 5:13-14

The light that shines in the darkness has now come and shown also in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Amen.
2 Corinthians 4:6

Joyous light of glory: of the immortal Father; heavenly, holy, blessed Jesus Christ, we have come to the Eve of Your birth.  Lord, as we turn our thoughts towards Bethlehem, give us the peace, stillness and joy of that first night when Mary gave birth, and laid You in a manger.  Let us rejoice with angelic choirs  and sing out the heavenly announcement of the Advent of our King.  O Son of God, O Giver of life: the universe proclaims Your glory.  Let Your light shine on us and dispel all fear of the power of sin, death and the devil; for in You we are set free from all of theses.  Come creatures on earth below, let us glorify the Lord our God!  To God the Father, the + Son, and the Holy Spirit glory be; now and forever.  Amen.

OPENING

In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!  Revelation 22:20

O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth will declare Your praise.  (Psalm 51:15)
Make haste, O God, to deliver me;
Make haste to help me, O Lord.  (Psalm 70:1)

Glory be to the Father and to the + Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever amen.

In many and various ways, God spoke to His people by the prophets.
But now in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son.

If you are using an advent wreath, light all of the candles now and pray:
Jesus Christ, You are the Light of the world that no darkness can overcome; for You make all things visible.  Keep us from sin and straighten our path, so that we may be prepared for Your coming.  Amen.

The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.  But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”  (Revelation 21:7-8)

and You have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,
and they shall reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:8-10)
