OPENING REFLECTION

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.  Amen  Psalm 19:14

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock!
You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth.  Psalm 80:1

I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old.
I will ponder all Your work, and meditate on Your mighty deeds.  Psalm 77:11-12

Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord Almighty!
Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations!  Revelation 15:3b

Oh, save Your people and bless Your heritage!
Be their Shepherd and carry them forever.  Psalm 28:9

Christ, the life of all the living,
Christ the death of death, our foe,
Who, Thyself for me once giving
To the Darkest depths of woe:
Through Thy suff’rings, death and merit
I eternal life inherit.
Thousands, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus unto Thee.

SCRIPTURAL REFLECTION

And now, go, write it before them on a tablet
and inscribe it in a book,
that it may be for the time to come
as a witness forever.
For they are a rebellious people,
lying children,
children unwilling to hear
the instruction of the LORD;
who say to the seers, “Do not see,”
and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right;
speak to us smooth things,
prophesy illusions,
leave the way, turn aside from the path,
let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”
Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel,
“Because you despise this word
and trust in oppression and perverseness
and rely on them,
therefore this iniquity shall be to you
like a breach in a high wall, bulging out, and about to collapse,
whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant;
and its breaking is like that of a potter’s vessel
that is smashed so ruthlessly
that among its fragments not a shard is found
with which to take fire from the hearth,
or to dip up water out of the cistern.”

Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you,
and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.
For the LORD is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him.

For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more.  He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry.  As soon as he hears it, he answers you.  And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher.  And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.  Then you will defile your carved idols overlaid with silver and your gold-plated metal images. You will scatter them as unclean things. You will say to them, “Be gone!”  Isaiah 30:8-14, 18-22

CATECHETICAL REFLECTION

Hallowed be Thy name.

What does this mean?
Answer: God’s name is indeed holy in itself; but we pray in this petition that it may be holy among us also.

How is this done:
Answer: When the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we as the children of God also lead a holy life according to it.  This grant us, dear Father in heaven.  But he that teaches and lives otherwise than God’s Word teaches, profanes the name of God among us.  From This preserve us, Heavenly Father.

Martin Luther, Small Catechism, First Petition to the Lord’s Prayer

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.  For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,  treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.  Avoid such people.  For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, hat the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.  2 Timothy 3:1-7, 14-17

PRAYER & CLOSING

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

Let us bless the Lord,
Thanks be to God.

Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever.  Amen.  Jude 1:24-25
